The Petronas Twin Towers

Petronas.jpg

For a symbol of Malaysia, Brian sent me the Petronas Twin Towers. The Twin Towers are located in Kuala Lumpur and stand an amazing 88 stories high. The Towers were the tallest buildings in the world before Taipei 101 and still is the tallest set of twin towers.

According to Brian, the Twin Towers are a signature of Malaysia and serve as a source of inspiration for Malaysians. The building is a symbol of how far they've come and the progress they've made in modernizing.

The Petronas Twin Towers is actually an office building, and is named for the Malaysia petroleum company, Petronas. Below the towers is a shopping mall popular with both locals and tourists. There is also a small lake with synchronized water fountains and a park.

The Towers are especially beautiful at night when they are lighted, as Brian says, "like a jewel in the sky." The design of the Twin Towers also supposedly contains motifs from Islamic art. Although spectacular to look at from the outside, it is difficult to get inside. Its primary function is an office building, and the security is high. There is no public access. However, the bridge is open to tourists on certain days. The tickets are limited though and are sold quickly.
